London – Turner Prize-winning artist Martin Creed has redesigned the interior of the restaurant at Sketch gallery and turned it into a work of art. Each component, from the tables and chairs to the cutlery and marble floor slabs, is unique and different from everything else in the restaurant.
‘The redesign has a familiar effect, and a unified space is created through a cacophony of objects,’ says curator Victoria Brooks. ‘The idea to include as many different designs as possible in the space is based on systems of logic. Why do we choose one design direction over another?’
This is true in Creed’s restaurant design. As he describes in a short film about the redesign, he chose to make each marble floor slab different because he could not choose a single one. For more on the hospitality industry, read our Travel & Hospitality Futures report.
