Going Gaga: H&M adds flash of Versace glamour

23 : 06 : 2011 Luxury : Revivial : Karl Lagerfeld

Sweden – High street clothes retailer H&M is to collaborate with Donatella Versace for two flash collections for winter 2011 and pre-spring 2012. The move is the latest in a line of collaborations between H&M and high-profile designers, including Karl Lagerfeld, Jimmy Choo and, most recently, fashion house Lanvin.

Donatella Versace will re-interpret classic Versace designs, bringing the label’s signature glamorous style to the collections, with studded leather, loud prints and sharp tailoring throughout. ‘Versace is one of the most important brands of recent times, and its collections for H&M will be glamorous and flamboyant,’ explains Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M.

Versace has been enjoying renewed media exposure recently. Lady Gaga, for example, revealed that she plans to wear only vintage Versace for the next two months. So the timing for the collaboration is perfect for both brands.

While celebrity collaborations are not new, H&M has consistently chosen the right designers. LS:N Global previously reported on H&M’s Waste collection, made from the off-cuts of its collaboration with Lanvin.
