Niseko, Japan – Japanese studio Design Spirits has created the interior of a café on the island of Hokkaido.
The Niseko Look Out Café is in a popular ski resort, near to the top of Niseko Mountain. Owing to the inaccessibility of the location, available materials were limited, so the designers constructed the space using only wood, paint and wallpaper. The vertical timber lattice used throughout the design represents Japanese identity.
The café is managed by the Hilton hotel group, and acts as an extension of the Hilton Niseko Village hotel at the base of the mountain.
Luxury consumers are bored with seeing the same things everywhere they go. Large groups such as the Hilton can counter this by creating unique, localised hospitality experiences. See LS:N Global’s Local hotels micro trend for further examples.
