New York – Industrial designer Stephen Burks is presenting his exploration of the global economy of artisanal craft at the Studio Museum in Harlem.
Stephen Burks: Man Made displays design inspired by his continuing collaboration with Senegalese weavers based in New York and Dakar, as well as with artisans in South Africa, Peru and India.
The exhibition, which runs until 26 June, also hosts workshops where weavers and artisans will show off their craft. Some of the products on display include the Double Basket lamp, made from Senegalese sweetgrass, along with polyethylene baskets and a material composition called Elephant, made from items such as glass, ink, polystyrene and nylon rope.
