Miami – Designer Francesca Gotti’s new textured packaging concept creates the illusion of an impenetrable concrete-like object.

For the conceptual project, which was designed in collaboration with Aybar gallery, Gotti encased the brand’s Oxygen, Sulphur and Curium scents in grey, black and white Glebanite blocks. To enable them to access the product inside, Gotti calls on consumers to first break the outer casing to create a new, rough incarnation of the packaging.

Gotti refers to the works as ‘modern fossils’, attributing a sense of timelessness to them. The aesthetic is also a hybrid of the new and the old, with a nod to the raw, rough surfaces of ageless materials such as rock and carbon in the black packaging, while the white and grey casings are more reminiscent of a modern concrete-like surface.

‘With a simultaneous air of mystique and irreverent playfulness, it represents the pleasure of this entirely new perfume experience – the wonder of discovery,’ Gotti told Dezeen.

The Big Picture

As we revealed in our Wabi Sabi design direction, brands are drawing inspiration from low-value materials designed simply to create a high-end aesthetic.
