Copenhagen – Remember hard wood? And the squeak of a sneaker? These are just two of the questions that Copenhagen-based designer Søren Rose wants people to answer when they examine the history lesson-themed new furniture collection for Danish design brand Mater.
The Gymnasium range was first launched in 2008 and includes cabinets crafted by cabinetmaker Bruno Hansen and made from recycled gym floorboards. The new mass-produced series uses sustainable, eco-friendly materials such as renewable pine and controlled Danish oak with water-based fixatives and varnishes.
For every piece purchased, Mater donates a percentage of the profits to promoting sports in developing countries.
