15 : 09 : 2016 Gloabl Futures Forum : Pavegen : Smart Cities

London – The final line-up of Disruptors for next month’s Global Futures Forum has been announced, and we are pleased to introduce smart flooring brand Pavegen.

  • Pavegen floor tiles generate 5 watts of electricity with each step and can be used to power retail concepts and street lights
  • The start-up raised a major round of funding in 2015 through crowdfunding platform Crowdcube

Smart cities have been a hot topic for much of the past decade, but amid the excitement about buildings that can speak to each other and lamp posts that track consumer footfall, one question remains – how to power it all.

Pavegen’s innovative smart floor tiles generate electricity from footfall, and the company has raised more than £2m ($2.6m, €2.3m) in the space of one year – factors that more than merit its inclusion in our inaugural Global Futures Forum. Its latest tiles are capable of producing more than 20 times the amount of energy generated by its previous system and are a very real proposition for brands that want to reframe sustainability for the modern market.

The company has installed its patented smart-flooring technology in more than 100 locations and is working with Westfield shopping centres in London and the Dupont Circle in Washington DC.
