Europe – Camper has collaborated with artist Dom Sebastian on a pre-season campaign for its autumn/winter 2016 collection.
The campaign imagery features shoes from the collection that are drenched in fluorescent slime. The striking colours and positioning of the slime highlight the detailing on the heels, slip-ons and sneakers, and create a modern, 3D-Baroque style.
The artificial nature of the gradient backdrops, coupled with the use of lurid colours, highlight Camper’s shift in brand positioning away from its rustic origins towards a more modern, arts-driven narrative.
As a Gen Viz influencer, Sebastian often seeks to subvert established design principles and practices. ‘Part of what I do is about changing perceptions on what is ugly or what is beautiful,’ he told Dazed.
Image-makers are using strange, slimy textures and coloured liquids to inject images with a sense of light-hearted fetishism. See our Sensory Assault design direction for more on this.
