Global – Spotify has launched a new tool validating music’s early adopters and offering hope to its laggards.
Anyone who has uttered the words ‘I listened to them before they were cool’ can prove it thanks to Found Them First, which uses Spotify’s data to show listeners which artists they discovered before anyone else.
The site tells users whether they were early listeners, defined as the first 15%, to any of its breakout artists of the past two years, including Danish pop star Mø and Apple Music pin-up FKA Twigs.
For those who don’t make the cut but want to impress their friends, the site offers a consolation playlist with some of the next big things to help laggards ‘get ahead of the pack’.
The Big Picture: As music continues to go digital, streaming services are experimenting with ways to help consumers discover the new favourite song. Find out more in our Radio Renaissance market report.
