London – A new collective, Listeners Project, creates short films using the backdrop of some of London’s soon-to-be demolished or renovated private and commercial buildings.

  • The project draws on a large urban community of actors, directors and set designers
  • Listeners Project makes effective use of buildings across London that are soon to change for ever

Listeners Project aims to tell stories about locations in London that are soon to be lost as a result of a change in usage, renovation or demolition.

The collective, founded by executive producer Ben Lambert, creates four short films made by separate crews in disused buildings with a significant history. The films follow a loose theme, and the result is a related body of work that is then screened in the spaces in which films were shot. Since it was founded, Listeners Project has shown films in houses and historic buildings, but most recently it filmed in BBC’s iconic Television Centre at White City.

‘We go into buildings that are about to be demolished or fundamentally changed, and give four directors a single room to work in, which they can’t choose,’ says Lambert. ‘There is the feeling with Listeners Project that we are capturing a place before it is gone forever.’

The Big Picture: Using a fleeting venue to create art or an event can help brands to create memorable experiences.
