Novel idea: Bringing the story alive with a digital thriller

Coventry, UK – Novelist William Boyd’s latest thriller won’t be available in hardback or in a book store near you, but as an interactive story hosted on Tumblr.

The Vanishing Game, developed by agency Y&R, is a short story commissioned by Land Rover to explore how adventures are part of the 4x4 experience.

The interactive experience provides a variety of multimedia options to explore the story on a deeper level, including video, cinemagraphs and musical accompaniment.

Told in eight parts, the story follows an out-of-work British actor who is offered the chance to earn £1,000 for 24 hours’ work, delivering a mysterious package from London to Scotland.

Speaking to The Guardian, Kim McCullough, vice-president of marketing at Jaguar Land Rover North America, said the company was ‘constantly exploring new ways to bring [its] owners’ passion for their vehicles to life’, with The Vanishing Game project capturing ‘how driving and adventures are a rich part of the Land Rover DNA’.
