New York – Fashion designer Rachel Comey has opened her first bricks-and-mortar store in SoHo’s Crosby Street.
The store, which opened in June, reflects the intimate, personal nature of the Comey brand that has won her such affection in the fashion world.
Designed in collaboration with architect Elizabeth Roberts, Comey’s store occupies a former mechanic’s garage down the road from her SoHo apartment.
The interior features a concrete terrazzo floor made with poured concrete mixed with hand-placed marble chips and heavily stuccoed walls.
The collection is hung on bent, brushed brass clothing racks, while a large custom shoe display, made from concrete and stones and collected from a local beach combined with pumice stones from the designer’s stone-washing facility, shows off the shoes.
LS:N Global’s Brutalist Feminine Design Direction examines how designers such as Comey are challenging the perceptions of low-value materials, creating delicately industrial aesthetics that contrast luxury retail design with stark environments.
