Hong Kong – Absolut has collaborated with artist Nadim Abbas to create Art Bar, an experiential pop-up bar for Art Basel Hong Kong.
The theme, Apocalypse Postponed, is an expression of Abbas’ recent research into war-time and bunker environments. Although the bar is located in a typical Hong-Kong high-rise building with amazing views of the city, the views are obscured by the sandbags that make up the bunker. Apart from the environment, the cocktails – created with an Absolut mixologist – all reflect the post-apocalypse theme. They are made with ingredients used in war-time rationing, like 2666: A Space Cocktail, which is made of beetroot and served in a vacuum-packed bag.
The dark vision of the Art Bar plays on similar themes in The Polarity Paradox, which found that people were intrigued with ideas of dystopian and dark visions of the future. For more, read our Chasm Culture microtrend.
