Studio City, California – Believing that a woman’s sense of style was missing from the consumer electronics market, an all-female team has designed a series of headphones masquerading as jewellery.
The Bumblebee, Scarab and Boa earbuds, created by a team of RKS designers for Vestalife, were designed by an all-female team of industrial designers whose varied backgrounds and experiences – the team included an accountant, a competitive snowboarder, a microbiologist and an artist – contributed to the design process.
‘What we really wanted to do was create designs that looked more like earrings than earbuds,’ says Soyun Kim, one of the designers. Cords are wrapped in coloured fabric, transforming ordinary electronics into something evoking the look and feel of a necklace.
Sleek and elegant, the pieces strike the right note.
