London – When you walk into the Hermès flagship store on New Bond Street you may be momentarily confused. In place of the pristine white walls, is a striking installation of red, with leather hides hanging off of hooks and craftsmen tools adorning the walls. Fear not, however. You are still in a store for one of the most expensive leather goods brands in the world, it has just been redesigned temporarily.
Studio Toogood has transformed the space into a temporary deep red, visceral installation as part of the travelling petit h shop. Petit h is Hermès’ upcycling project, which takes offcuts to create new luxury accessories.
The interiors were designed to evoke the idea of a workshop, with craftstmen’s tools hung from the wall and the red colour harking back to when it was Hermès’ signature hue.
‘In keeping with petit h’s theme of exuberant re-invention, the utilitarian white space has been repurposed for a series of sculptural displays in glossy leather and resin,’ explains the studio.
