Healdsburg – Shed, a 9,700 square-feet multi-use market, café and events centre, has opened in Healdsburg, Sonoma Country, California, catering for the growing market of consumers seeking hyperlocal and sustainable produce.
Downstairs, a café offers a menu inspired by local food producers, and features an open kitchen, wood oven and products made in-house. A fermentation bar boasts six seasonal red and white wines as well as beer, cider and kombucha.
The space also includes a larder stocked with local seasonal produce. A specialist retail area offers homeware products including basic cooking and gardening tools that are changed to reflect the seasons.
Upstairs is a private events space fitted with a state-of-the-art kitchen and media screens, where a recent workshop invited people to learn about local ingredients, wild salmon and its role in local ecosystems. A local chef also taught participants how to cook salmon.
‘I wanted to create something that could illustrate the complete food cycle – growing, preparing and enjoying,’ says Shed co-founder Cindy Daniel.
