San Francisco – California-based product designers Fuseproject are willing to bet that 99% of us have lost our keys, and they are probably right. Its solution is August Smart Lock, a home entry system that enables users to unlock their front door with their phone and to create an ‘invite list’ of friends, relatives or housekeepers who will have key-free access to their home.
The circular, hand-sized aluminium device mounts over most normal deadbolts and links back to the home-owners’ smartphone via an app. This app also enables users to send virtual keys to guests, specifying exactly when and for how long they will have access. ‘August is the first step towards seamless interactions with the useful technology we will experience every day in our homes,’ says Fuseproject founder Yves Béhar.
While similar products such as Lockitron are already on the market, August’s sophisticated app interface and user-empowering, social approach to household basics makes it a stand-out example of our Future Family macrotrend.
