The available photo overlays include staples of internet meme culture, such as Gangnam Style and various cats. But OKFocus has also collaborated with Amsterdam-based ‘ecstatic surface designers’ Pinar&Viola on a custom series of overlays inspired by the trompe l’oeil painting style.
The series draws attention to the ubiquity of online self-portraiture and its capacity to both reveal and obscure the person behind the image. Referencing kitsch fantasy art and early web design, the images seem to reflect genuine alienation and self-aware parody at the same time.
Our Netstalgia macrotrend explores the re-emergence of early web aesthetics. For more on OKFocus and what it can do for your brand, read our Portfolio feature.
