Amsterdam – A disused shipyard in Amsterdam, NDSM, has been chosen as the site for the new Boxpark pop-up shopping centre.
Like the Boxpark in Shoreditch, London, Boxpark NDSM will be created from shipping containers. But unlike the London version, Boxpark NDSM will be situated indoors in one of the shipyard’s empty hangars.
As with other symbiotic structures, Boxpark NDSM draws influence from the host building’s aesthetic and heritage in order to fit in with its environment.
‘The shipping containers suit this building,’ says Roger Wade, creative director and CEO of Boxpark. ‘It shows it off in its best light. You can imagine these containers in the building when it was a shipping hangar.
