Vienna – Austrian architects practice Kohlmayr Lutter Knapp has converted vacant shop premises in Vienna into boutique-style hotel rooms.
The Urbanauts hotel is a far cry from typical all-inclusive hotels. Rather than serve breakfast, the hotel encourages guests to eat at a local café. Guests are supplied with a list of recommended establishments that provide services usually found in traditional hotels.
‘We know that people in the neighbourhood – shop owners, waiters and cooks – are our friends,’ explains Knapp.
This is a great way for travellers to discover the city’s hidden gems and see Vienna from a local perspective.
Repurposing disused space and squatting in competitors’ spaces is a great way for a brand to maximise profit. To find out more about what we call Symbiotic Branding, come to LS:N Global’s autumn/winter 2012 Trend Briefing. For more information email [email protected] or call 020 7870 1971.
