Nuremberg – Visual arts graduate Michael Alfred has created an online exhibition which exists within a 3D navigable space.
For his graduation project, Print Fiction, Alfred chose to exhibit works from digital artists within a net-based environment. By questioning the way in which we view and perceive digital design in comparison with that of print, he aimed to create a ‘utopia of printed matter’.
‘For digital information, I really appreciate the idea of making stuff accessible and available for everybody,’ Alfred tells LS:N Global. ‘For me, it’s not necessary that the exhibition is there for a limited time. The fear for the loss of information is omnipresent, and might be overrated. A snapshot in time is information as well.’
The 3D space is reminiscent of early computer-game design, both aesthetically and in its navigability. As LS:N Global explored in our Second Internet microtrend, a new generation of designers is curating spaces online which embrace the community-based spirit of the early internet.
