Miami – Mexican design studio Pedro&Juana's interactive installation explores social interaction through design, food and sound.

  • Sobremesa is the tradition of spending time with friends and family after a meal
  • The installation explores how people interact with spaces within the home and with each other

An interpretation of the patio area of a Mexico City house, Sobremesa has been created using perforated metal panels and ceramic tiles. It is filled with houseplants, homeware and familiar items found in Mexican homes, with furniture and lights designed by the studio.

The installation will be in flux as guests interact with the space. Visitors can leave their mark by adding magnetised tiles to the metal walls. ‘We wanted to recreate the effect of a visitor leaving behind something in a home,’ says Pedro&Juana co-founder Mecky Reuss.

A playlist reflecting the ambient sound of Mexico City and a live mariachi band will feature in the soundscape, while Mexican snacks will be served. ‘We tried to bring a piece of Mexico City to Miami,’ says Reuss.
