French designer Clement Balavoine has created a virtual design process that enables fashion designers to create a garment without ever touching fabric.

Using a suite of 3D gravity simulation software, Neuro radically challenges traditional design, manufacturing and distribution conventions. Designers can sketch garment designs, stitch together digital fabric and preview the results from 360-degree angles.

According to Balavoine, consumers could ‘create a garment based on their body measurement with the fabric and colour they prefer’. ‘If we want to push further, we would scan the customer and design the garment directly onto their digital avatar,’ the designer told Dezeen.

The Big Picture

The supply chain of the fashion industry is ripe for change as hyper-connected consumers increasingly demand instant gratification. To learn more about their impact on fashion production, read our Buy It Now Fashion column.
