Global – The Dalai Lama and a team of leading psychologists have created a digital map of human emotions to encourage empathy.
The Atlas of Emotions was inspired by a series of conversations between the Dalai Lama, Dr Paul Ekman and Dr Eve Ekman about the science of emotions. It was developed by studio Stamen Design to be an interactive journey through the world of emotions.
To create the Atlas, Ekman surveyed 248 scientists that specialise in the study of emotions and found that 88% agreed that there are universal emotions that all humans, no matter where they live or how they are raised, have in common.
‘We have, by nature or biologically, this destructive emotion, but also constructive emotion,’ the Dalai Lama explained to The New York Times. ‘This innerness, people should pay more attention to, not just for knowledge, but in order to create a happy human being.’
Appealing to consumers’ emotions is about more than boosting their dopamine levels. Brands are starting to embrace a wider range of feelings to connect with consumers on a deeper level. Read our macrotrend The E-motional Economy to find out more.
