Tokyo – Japanese lifestyle brand Muji has unveiled three self-contained huts for Tokyo Design Week that provide an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The most populous city in the world proved the perfect spot to unveil Muji’s sleek and simple holiday huts, designed for construction in countryside locations.
UK designer Morrison describes his cork cabin as a ‘small house to spend the weekend in’. The hut features a sliding glass door and is equipped with a stove and fireplace. Fukasawa’s black, wooden cabin features a small kitchen area and an enclosed space for bathing. Grcic’s two-storey aluminium cabin, which features corrugated external walls, is designed to be a ‘rigid and self-supporting structure’ that can be placed on any type of terrain.
These cabins illustrate the allure of simple design as we become an increasingly city-bound species. For more on how urban demands are changing how brands operate, read our New Bricolage Living macrotrend.
