Preview: London Design Festival 2015 Review

30 : 09 : 2015 London Design Festival 15 : The Art Of Progress : 19 Greek Street Gallery

London Design Festival 2015 presented a variety of new directions for the design industry to explore.

  • Debate around sustainability communications suggested that ethical products may become more desirable
  • Designers and manufacturers alike embraced mass-customisation

Over the past decade, sustainability has gone from being a design buzzword to a creative buzzkill associated with bland and unappealing aesthetics. Many of this year’s shows and debates focused on updating communication strategies around sustainable materials, manufacturing and design for weary consumers.

The Art of Progress, a show curated by Marc Péridis at his 19 Greek Street gallery, examined the challenges of responsible consumption. ‘We figured out that the best way is to improve ourselves first. And so our first ethical lifestyle exhibition was born.’

The Big Picture: For more on the issues and themes that shaped London Design Festival 2015, read our review in the Shows section.
