The Age of the Long Near

13 : 03 : 2015 The Age Of The Long Near : Queen Elizabeth Centre : Trend Briefing S/S 15

South Bank, London – Hundreds of delegates from around the world gathered yesterday at London’s Purcell Room for LS:N Global’s Spring/Summer 2015 Trend Briefing, The Age of the Long Near.

The day began with The Future Laboratory co-founders Martin Raymond and Chris Sanderson giving a global snapshot of the trends to watch, the technologies to embrace and the consumer tribes to target, before unveiling Whole-system Thinking, in which they explored how closed-loop consumerism and biotechnology have the potential to tackle environmental issues.

After a short break, during which guests were invited to explore two art installations – Last Clock and Echo, leant to us by our good friends Jussi Ängeslevä, Ross Cooper and POSTmatter – The Future Laboratory art director Joanna Tulej and LS:N Global insight editor Peter Firth introduced guests to The Optimised Self, moving beyond the Self-Quants we have come to recognise and looking towards a future in which products and services are hyper-personalised to a genetic level.

Finally, The Future Laboratory chief strategy officer Tom Savigar and Chris Sanderson ended the day with The Immortal Brand, or why short-termism is the greatest threat to business potential – a rallying call to look beyond obsolescent business strategy and build brands that will stand the test of time in a geopolitically turbulent era.
