Jaén, Spain – Madrid-based retail designers Marketing-Jazz have created Boticana, a pharmacy designed to make customers feel at home.

The name, roughly translated, means ‘Ana’s pharmacy’. Products are organised according to the rooms of the fictional Ana’s home. Beauty products are displayed around a dressing table, diet and nutrition items are stocked in the dining room, and personal hygiene products are arranged in the bathroom. The designers use bright rainbow colours and cheerful lighting to make the environment even more home-like.

Recognising that getting well is about more than simply ingesting the right pills, new pharmacies have been adopting designs that are warm and inviting rather than sterile and clinical. LS:N Global has noted several examples of the new human touch at pharmacies in our Designer Pharmacies microtrend.

The new pharmacies also signal the rise of health and wellness pursuits as social activities, as seen in convivial wellness bars such as Stanley’s Pharmacy.
