Oostvoorne, The Netherlands – On a remote stretch of the Voornes Duin nature reserve in The Netherlands, Amsterdam-based firm Emma Architects has designed a completely self-sufficient restaurant.
Using the sun, wind and fire, Aan Zee Restaurant is able to control its heating, cooling, ventilation and water management systems.
The spiral-shaped structure is made from fully re-usable materials such as glass and wood, which means that if it is ever dismantled, the different parts can be put to other uses.
Retreats in secluded areas are a draw for consumers who are looking to escape their always-on, digital lives. For more examples of spaces that provide consumers with time to reflect, see LS:N Global’s New Sublimity Tourism microtrend.
