Helsinki – Finnish environmental organisation Dodo has created a city farming project called Turn Table – The Urban Garden, which offers people planting tips and serves the food it grows in a temporary restaurant, as part of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 programme.
Constructed from plastic and wood, the Turn Table restaurant stands on a disused rotating railway platform, surrounded by crops, beehives and workshop areas.
The restaurant consists of one long rectangular table, to promote interaction among guests, and is a great response to consumer demand for more convivial experiences, as noted in our Conviviality Culture macrotrend.
While Rurban farming initiatives have proved popular in London and New York, Turn Table – The Urban Garden shows that the trend is becoming part of global consumer thinking. To find out more, read our Rurban Revolution macrotrend.
