New York – Marc Jacobs presented his autumn/winter 2012/2013 collection at New York fashion week in celebration of the eccentric older woman, and inspired by fashion icons such as Anna Piaggi and Lynne Yaeger.
Jacobs created oversized feminine silhouettes with layering in heavy brocade fabrics and large box pleats at the waist to exaggerate hips. His use of innovative textile manipulations, such as holographic appliqu’, gave garments a modern aesthetic.
The Baby Boomer generation’s sense of style is increasingly in the fashion spotlight. The popular blog Advanced Style by Ari Seth Cohen, for example, also features well-dressed older women exclusively.
