Chicago – A product launched through fundraising website Kickstarter has made the jump from crowd-financed experiment to the sales floor of technology leader Apple.
The LunaTik wristband, designed by Scott Wilson, is attached to an Apple Nano, transforming the device into a wearable wristwatch. After initial attempts to secure a manufacturer, Wilson set up a Kickstarter campaign and raised nearly $1m in 30 days. This attracted the attention of Apple, which now plans to stock the product in its North American stores.
‘The community support and interaction throughout the experience have been overwhelming,’ explains Wilson. ‘We are proud to be at the forefront of this game-changing inclusive platform that empowers aspiring entrepreneurs and enables creatives to maintain control of their vision.’
A survey sent to the designer’s backers revealed that 76% had bought the Nano because of the wristband, demonstrating the anarchic consumer attitude outlined in our Anarconomy Decade macro trend.
