Milan – ‘I don’t want to be pigeon-holed,’ Faye Toogood told LS:N Global as she showed us around her Natura Morte show today.
With her collection of candles, chairs, clothes, plates, hats, tables and still-life photography, we think there is precious little chance of anyone doing that.
Up three flights of stairs, the coldness of the dark in the four-room gallery – window shutters are deliberately kept shut – is offset by the warming aroma of tuberose from her Afraid of the Dark candles.
Weight is very important in this, Studio Toogood’s second collection, Assemblage 2. At times it feels almost like a more serious, weightier, darker version of the studio’s first collection, Assemblage 1. The Lunar Plates, for example, are very heavy plates of sand-cast pewter. And the Element Table In Resin is a negative of the Element Table from Assemblage 1 that weighs 240kg.
Look out for LS:N Global’s report on the smoke, food and dance event by Arabeschi di Latte at Studio Toogood’s space.
