Tokyo – Japanese architect Jo Nagasaka of the Schemata Architecture Office has designed the first shop for Australian skincare brand Aesop in Japan, located in a former greengrocers, using recycled materials.
Nagasaka reclaimed timber from a demolished house for the interior. Bottles of soap and other beauty products are displayed on bundles of wooden columns from the old house. And the shelves, door handles and mirrors all feature upcycled materials.
Aesop is a good example of a global company that maintains a consistent design signature while incorporating local influences. For more details, read our Innovate article.
