Virgin is opening a beach-side airport lounge

28 : 06 : 2017 Travel : Luxury : Placemaking

Barbados – Departure Beach will be open to Virgin Holidays customers only.

Access will cost adults £19.50 ($25, €22) and children £11.70 ($15, €13). Customers will be picked up from their hotel and taken to the private beach club. Here they can both check in to their flight and drop off their luggage. When the time comes to catch their flight they will be driven direct to security at the airport to board their plane.

While at the beach club guests will be able to lie back on a sun lounger and, of course, swim in the sea. The club has shower access and plastic bags for wet swimsuits. For those not wishing to take a dip, complimentary food is also provided, along with an air-conditioned lounge complete with giant flatscreen tvs. There is also a games room to entertain the children.

  • Bespoke airport terminals such as Departure Beach and The Private Suite show how a saturated air travel industry is increasingly innovating with the on-ground experience to attract flyers
