London – Illustrator and 3D animator Jack Sachs has created an animated film tour of Tate Britain.

  • The film, SHHH!, takes viewers on a tour of the gallery space filled with computer-animated characters
  • The film was commissioned by Tate Collective in an effort to engage young people with Tate Britain

Commissioned by Tate Collective for the BP Loud Tate event, SHHH! was produced by Blinkink and introduces Sachs’s signature style to the galleries of Tate Britain. The aim was to create a piece that was accessible to all audiences and would engage young people with the gallery.

‘The film is a sideways look at the hushed, quiet nature of a space like the Tate Britain in contrast to all of the loud and exciting artworks it houses,’ Sachs told It’s Nice That. ‘My intention was that the film would feel like a casual stroll around the gallery on a sleepy mid-week afternoon, encountering lots of loud and disruptive works of art just doing their thing.’

BP Loud Tate is a free day of artist-led workshops, music, film, performances and talks that take place across Tate Britain. Alongside the film, Sachs ran a free 3D animation workshop.

The Big Picture

In an effort to capture the attention of younger audiences, museums and galleries are using technology and creative collaborations. For more, see our Museum Market report.
