Dubai Design Week 2015 – Brazilian designer Guto Requena’s The Love Project analyses emotional data and transforms love stories into 3D objects.

  • Launched during Sao Paolo Design Week in 2014, the project translated emotions into tangible objects
  • The studio teamed up with D3, a digital production company based in Brazil, to create objects using a 3D printer

The Love Project explored how memory and storytelling can be translated into objects through science and technology. It used sensors and a 3D printer to physically capture a participant’s love story.

Participants at the installation wore body sensors that tracked their voice, heartbeat, sweat and mindwaves when recounting their love stories. The algorithms from their emotions were recorded and the data sent to Grasshopper, a parametric software system. It was then visualised on a computer and sent to the printer.

The final object was in the form of a mandala, and each product was unique to the storyteller. Objects can be printed in various materials including glass, polyamide, ceramic or metal.

‘You can literally see the shape of your love,’ says Cyril Zammit, director of Design Days Dubai.
