30 : 09 : 2015 Genuine Liquorette : AvroKO : Cocktail Bar

New York – When it comes to cocktails, Genuine Liquorette is a free spirit.

  • The Grand Street bar is the latest project from interior designers AvroKO
  • Paying no heed to cocktail convention, the bar is an inner-city twist on the Californian bodega

Headed by world-renowned mixologist Eben Freeman, Genuine Liquorette serves a drinks menu of Cha-Chunkers – miniature bottles of liquor housed in soft drink cans.

Freeman’s contemporary take on the mojito features a bottle of Cruzan white rum submerged in a can of Sprite and finished with lime and mint.

In true bodega style, the bottles lining the walls are not just for decoration. Revellers are encouraged to help themselves to the selection on display and are charged by the ounce.

Freeman and his team will invite guests to put their mixing skills to the test at a series of monthly Cocktail Collective events.

The Big Picture: For discerning cocktail consumers, Cosmopolitans and Manhattans no longer cut it. They are now connoisseurs – curious about ingredients, methods and new ways of interacting with their drink. Read our Raising the Bar microtrend for more.
