Basel – Online platform Artsy has teamed up with Swiss designer Sibylle Stœckli to create an installation that charts different cultures’ relationships with food for Design Miami/Basel 2015.

  • The display builds on Stœckli’s continuing Global Design Research project
  • Presented as part of the Design Curio initiative

Dubbed the News Base Fluido Space, the installation stands in stark contrast to the imposing gallery displays filling the exhibition halls. Adopting an anthropological approach to design, Stœckli worked with Artsy’s Alex Gilbert to curate a collection of objects that reflect on the communal and cultural importance of food rituals across five continents. ‘Stœckli designed this scenographic presentation to invoke wonder and discussion around typologies present in both nature, such as food, and the man-made world,’ says Gilbert.

The booth display, a collaboration between Stœckli and painter Charlotte Herzig, features a newspaper and wallpaper created from prints inspired by a vegetal typology designed by Herzig.

Installations such as News Base Fluido Space and Rirkrit Tiravanija’s Do We Dream Under the Same Sky take the affluence and glamour of the Design Miami/Basel fair into an intriguing context by exploring design through an anthropological lens.
