Global – This week’s Macro Inspire profiles artists and designers who are exploring how objects and spaces can help us to achieve The Optimised Self.
Our spring macrotrend The Optimised Self is manifest in art and design through psychoactive installations, synaesthetic imagery, sensory mood-tracking apps and therapeutic objects. An example is the Day & Night Light project by Dutch designer Éléonore Delisse, who experimented with manipulating the wavelengths of light to create lamps that counter seasonal affective disorder (SAD). The designer introduced tinted lighting to regulate the circadian rhythm, using blue light to lower melatonin levels and stimulate wakefulness in the morning, and warm amber hues to trigger the release of melatonin in the evening.
