US – Google has teamed up with Paramount Pictures for the release of Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi film Interstellar.
Google has created a multi-platform campaign that enables cinema-goers to connect with the film through immersive experiences and provides them with exclusive content in a way that goes beyond conventional film marketing.
This is the first ever digital initiative supporting a film on a Google domain. Visitors to g.co/interstellar are transported aboard the Interstellar Space Hub that takes users on a tour of the stars. By visiting different planets and venturing into the deepest recesses of the universe they can unlock exclusive content including previously unseen trailers.
What is more, in mid-October, Google for Education will deliver its first film-themed lesson plans. Students at thousands of schools across America will learn about the maths and scientific principles that informed and inspired Jonathan and Christopher Nolan’s writing on the film.
Combine this with a Google+ Hangout with the stars of the film and a project with Google Play compiling user-generated content into a short film highlighting the current human experience on Earth, and you begin to have an understanding of just how deep this collaboration runs and the implications for all parties involved.
