Los Angeles – 5 Every Day is a new app that embraces the ephemerality of the internet, listing five events that are happening in the city each day, before disappearing completely.
The app was designed by design studio Public-Library with local music group Yacht curating the listings. As the name suggests, there are five daily events posted, one in each category: art, food, music, city and a wildcard. By producing a new itinerary each day, there isn't much room for future planning and once the day is over, the listing is gone for ever. The app has a carpe diem mentality surrounding it – seizing the day and spontaneously going on an adventure.
‘By having no archive or future events list, 5 Every Day takes on an ephemeral quality that adds a level of immediacy and nowness to the experience,’ says Public-Library. ‘There is no yesterday, there is no tomorrow, only today.’
