Stockholm – Synaesthesia was the starting point for artists and designers participating in season two of design platform Underverk’s programme of interactive experiential installations.

For one installation, Big Candy Bang, artists Exotikdot and Ami Izaki created an edible installation of glow-in-the-dark sweets. The aim was to add different layers to the sense of taste by turning it into a spatial experience. Sweets were hung from the ceiling, creating a cosmos of glowing edible treats, creating ‘an illusion of a big candy bang’, says Jonna Dagliden, co-founder of Underverk.

‘The candies were made from 26 recipes and formed a taste map that people could explore,’ Dagliden tells LS:N Global. ‘It was amazing seeing how it triggered people's senses and taste memories – they tried to work out what the flavours were, sometimes mentioning ingredients that were not present.’

Food designers are taking cues from Re-enlightenment Rising and creating edible delights that are inspired by the cosmos, engaging all the senses. For more, read our Galactica design direction.
