Potsdam – Designer Jonas Breme has created Listen Carefully, a conceptual pair of headphones that forces listeners to sit still and pay attention to music.
With music increasingly mobile and ubiquitous, many listeners are becoming used to ignoring it as they go about other tasks. To encourage listeners to adopt a more mindful approach, Breme has equipped the headphones with motion sensors that reduce playback volume when the user moves too much.
The headphones are part of the Slow Listening concept, analogous to slow food in its focus on quality over convenience. Although not market-ready, the headphones reference the increasing desire of consumers for moments of peace, contemplation and focus on sensory experience.
This is a great example of how consumers are seeking authentic experiences while connected to digital devices such as music players. For more, read our New Sublimity macrotrend.
