Tel Aviv – Foodography is a dining experience with social media at its heart.

  • A photogenic menu, some innovative crockery and a photography masterclass serve as the ingredients for a great photo
  • Carmel Winery sought to reconnect with a generation of consumers who experience food through the lens of a smartphone

Carmel Winery hosted a series of events in collaboration with ceramic artist Adi Nissani and chef Meir Adoni. Nissani created two first-of-their-kind plates to complement Adoni’s photogenic menu. The first of Nissani’s designs, 360, featured a revolving platform, which allowed diners to capture their meal in the round, while the curved backdrop of Limbo was perfect for taking still shots. Diners were also treated to a session with Dan Perez, one of Israel’s pre-eminent food photographers, who helped to turn guests from social media zeros to Instagram-heroes in the space of an evening.

‘We are all food photographers. Whether it's at home or in the local pizza parlour, restaurant or café, we all snap a picture and release it to the internet before we’ve taken our first bite,’ said Carmel Winery.

The Big Picture: The culinary world is divided by Instagram. The sportification of food is causing some chefs and food designers to fight back. Find out more with our Insta-real microtrend.
