London – A heap of reclaimed timber has been installed by artists Richard Woods and Sebastian Wrong of Established & Sons at the V&A museum for the London Design Festival. ‘Bench Press’ re-uses parts of the tulipwood installation conceived by Wrong at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan earlier this year.
Known as a utilitarian material, tulipwood is reinterpreted here as an ornamental material for use in a more decorative context. Keen to address sustainability and value, designers are increasingly exploring the potential of this low-cost hardwood sourced from the largest temperate forest in the world.
