The beauty lab: A hands-on approach to wellness

Eindhoven – Design Academy Eindhoven student Nina van Bart has envisaged the future of beauty products in her graduation project, The Alchemist, on show at Dutch Design Week.

The designer imagines that in the future, the bathroom will become a laboratory, where people will mix substances – minerals, powders and liquids – to create their own ultra-sensory experiences. In her concept video, van Bart uses crystals to exfoliate skin and a nutrient membrane for a new take on the facial.

‘It is a new method of bodycare,’ van Bart tells LS:N Global. ‘When you create your own body products there is more value and experience in it.’

The Alchemist visualises a future of beauty that is tactile and provides a sanctuary from the fast pace of everyday life. For more examples of projects that indulge the senses, read our Sensory Splurge microtrend.
