Brighton, UK – Brighton University architecture and design graduate Josh Bitelli has teamed up with local bakers and road workers to highlight the potential for collaboration between designers and these often overlooked professionals.
Bitelli worked with Forfars bakery in Sussex to get to grips with the industrial machinery and mass-production processes it uses to create bread. Bitelli used Forfars’ fluffy white loaves to encase a set of unique ceramics, pouring semi-porcelain slip into a hollow to create a series of vessels. He then teamed up with Brighton-based road workers to create his asphalt Palmeira bench and Repaired Vessels pieces.
Bitelli presented his work at this year’s New Designers exhibition. For more highlights from the graduate show, look out for LS:N Global’s forthcoming review in the Shows section.
