Florence – French fashion brand Carven put on a race-style catwalk show at the Pitti Immagine Uomo exhibition for its spring/summer 2013 presentation, which designer Guillaume Henry described as ‘Jacques Tati meets Fellini’.
The colourful pack of Carven models that speed-walked or cycled in the velodrome runway included rushing waiters precariously carrying trays of cocktails in an apparent race to the finishing line.
‘The idea was not that people left here thinking about the colour of the shoes or the design of a belt, but that they enjoyed the experience and got to know the Carven man,’ Henry told Vogue after the theatrical event. He added that the show was intended to reflect the idiosyncrasies of Gallic culture and he wanted the audience to know what it is like to celebrate national holidays in France.
By pairing its bright sportswear and preppy looks with such a Conviviality Culture experience Carven has left a lasting impression on its menswear audience for next summer.
