US – Microsoft is celebrating the bottom-up innovation sparked by the release of its Xbox Kinect with a short film.
After its release, consumers have hacked into and used the motion- and sound-sensing interface in ways not envisaged in its original design. The film shows the Kinect being used by doctors, musicians and bomb disposal specialists, who all use the interface to manipulate the tools of their craft.
This is a great example of a brand welcoming the upsurge of innovation that millions of amateur and professional hackers can bring to their product. For more on how hackers are modifying products, read our Hacktivism microtrend.
